During the night of Tuesday 20 to Wednesday 21 April, nearly 130 police officers (including 60 CRS) were mobilized to try to restore calm.
Once again, the police were targeted by stone throwing and fireworks, as can be seen in videos posted by the Independent Union of Police Commissioners (SICP).
Garbage containers, a car and a construction machine were also set on fire, while police vehicles were the target of paving stones.
Calm finally returned around 2:30 a.m.
Six individuals were arrested, in addition to the 14 already arrested during the first three nights.
There were no injuries among the police.
"It's starting to calm down"
“
Mortar fire targeted the police but the last night was quieter than the others.
It was more sporadic, it's starting to calm down a bit.
There have already been arrests so that means fewer individuals and there were also seizures of mortars during the day,
”explains to
Figaro
Benoit Aristidou, representative of the SGP Police-FO Unit union for the Tourcoing and Roubaix sector.
For his part, Matthieu Valet, deputy national secretary of the SICP, draws a parallel between this urban violence and the recent verdict of the trial of the burnt police officers in Viry-Châtillon, considered too lenient by many police officers.
“
Today, when we attack the police, we do not risk much in the criminal field.
The feeling of impunity is growing and colleagues pay it cash, it's disastrous,
”he said.
“
There is an anti-cop hatred with the will to kill, on the part of increasingly young and more violent individuals.
The penalties are not firm enough and do not dissuade them.
This is very worrying,
”continues Matthieu Valet.
"We will not let go"
Doriane Bécue, Mayor of Tourcoing
On the political level, the DVD mayor of Tourcoing, Doriane Bécue, shows her determination.
“There is a fight against drugs so it bothers delinquents. Police also seized motocross bikes on Saturday. It started the riots
, she explains to Figaro.
I thank the police very present every evening. We will not give up, we will put all the necessary means so that these neighborhoods do not become lawless zones ”
.
The mayor is counting in particular on the 250 cameras of the city and the urban supervision center, where municipal and national police work, to have evidence against the delinquents so that "
justice does its job
". "
The goal is to challenge delinquents who do not bring calm to the neighborhoods and that there are sanctions behind,
" said Doriane Bécue.
Still on the political level, the urban violence in Tourcoing also gave rise to lively exchanges between Marine Le Pen and Gérald Darmanin, Tuesday, April 20. “
Third night of the Tourcoing riots, the city ... of the Minister of the Interior. Everything has been said about the government's security record,
”the president of the National Rally wrote on Twitter.
“12 arrests last night and a fierce fight against drug trafficking. You speak, we act. You are experiencing problems, we are solving them, ”
replied the Minister of the Interior, who was notably mayor of Tourcoing from April 2014 to September 2017.
