Bavaria: Blitzmarathon starts at 6 a.m. - 390 speed cameras planned in Middle Franconia

The “24-hour lightning marathon” and “speed marathon” will start next Wednesday at 6 am.

As part of the new Bavarian road safety program 2030, "Bavaria mobile - safely to the destination", the Central Franconian police headquarters are carrying out speed controls at over 390 possible measuring points.

Lightning marathon: number of traffic accidents and fatalities should be reduced

The program continues to aim to reduce the overall number of road accidents. In addition, the number of road deaths and serious injuries on Bavaria's streets is to be reduced. In 2020, excessive or inappropriate speed was the main cause of accidents for 33 percent of fatal road accidents in Central Franconia. Last year 51 people died on the streets of Central Franconia. 17 deaths were attributable to the cause of the accident “speed”. Thus, excessive speed claims most human lives in road traffic.
