Those were moments of fear and concern that the residents of
Fátima
and
Manzanares
, in Pilar, experienced
last week
.
It is that in those localities of the district of the
North zone
of Greater Buenos Aires (GBA),
a puma walked
through the region.
Finally, it
was found in one of the
Pilarenses
countries
.
The alerts came on at
noon this Friday
, when one of the many private neighborhoods in that area registered, through its security cameras, the moment in which
the feline was prowling around the
place, very
close of a green space
.
After that, the authorities received the pertinent notice and began with the search for the specimen, which
in the first instance would have been considered a puppy,
although some neighbors also ventured that it was a wild cat.
Finding.
The cougar was found near the Fatima train station.
After learning of the unusual episode, from the neighborhoods they recommended to the residents of the region and as a precaution try to
avoid leaving their homes
. They also did the same from the security forces. "They gave us notice from the Detachment so that
we are attentive,
" asserts Pamela, a neighbor of the area. The
more intensive care of pets
was also a suggestion that was repeated around those hours.
Despite the fact that the first sighting was made in one of the countries that marks the entrance to the town and that the first versions of the follow-up revealed that the puma had headed in the direction of Manzanares, it
was
finally
found in the private neighborhood of Los Potrillos
, just 800 meters from the Fatima train station.
"The animal was
assisted and evaluated
by the staff of
Zoonosis
,
Environment
and also by members of the
Temaikén Foundation
," they point out from the Commune.
At the close of this edition, the animal was going to be transferred to that renowned institution to further
corroborate its state of health
.
It remains to be defined if it will be released into its natural habitat or if it will be taken to a reserve or refuge.
Registry.
The security cameras of a country filmed the moment in which the feline looked out.
"In Fatima you can see wild cats and foxes in places that were previously impossible to find. They were left without their homes due to the advance of urbanization. Now it is common to see foxes crossing Route 25," said Juan, a resident of the district.
And Sofía added: "There is also the possibility that the puma has been brought or bought by someone from a country."
Background
A few days ago, in Pilar and after more than two months of rehabilitation,
11 wild birds
that had been rescued from wildlife trafficking
were released
in the Municipal Reserve
.
The
ten red-capped cardinals
and the
mixed hawk
that were found by the Gendarmerie in the trunk of a car during a vehicle control in November 2020 (they were destined for illegal commercialization) passed through the
Temaikén Species Recovery Center
.
There they were rehabilitated before being returned to nature.
Likewise, during the strictest period of confinement in the framework of the coronavirus pandemic, the
presence of gray foxes in urban areas
of the district
also grew exponentially
.
So much so that several specimens of this wild animal appeared opportunely
in the center of the city
.
