The Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, was the official who was most displaced after Alberto Fernández's decision to suspend presence in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) between April 19 and 30, as part of the new restrictions by the second wave of coronavirus.
Since the announcement, the official, always ready to speak in the media, maintained absolute public silence, amid some rumors that indicated a possible resignation.
Finally, and after the meeting he held on Wednesday with the President, Trotta spoke again with the media and, amid strong criticism of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, explained why he decided to continue in Alberto Fernández's Cabinet.
"There were many rumors related to my departure from the Government, but
we have made a commitment to accompany the President
. I am a minister of Alberto Fernández and we always accompany our political front when going through one of the most challenging moments that Argentine politics has had" he explained.
During an interview published this Thursday in the newspaper
Página 12
, Trotta said that he feels "strong support from the President" since "the 2021 education budget represents the most important year-on-year growth in educational investment in Argentine history."
"That synthesizes the true commitment. Everything else is speculation, it is trying to generate distancing and confusion in society," he stressed.
The official also questioned the judicialization of the debate because of the presence and pointed to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Juntos por el Cambio, whom he accused of "
political speculation
."
"
It is an enormous irresponsibility of the head of government and of the Government of the City to
breach a DNU, not to respect the Federal Justice and to place the families in a situation of great uncertainty", he affirmed.
Pressure on private schools
Trotta, who after the announcement of the President of the new restrictions called for silence, returned with an offensive towards the chambers that group private schools.
The Minister of Education and his counterpart for Justice and Human Rights, Martín Soria, informed the establishments of the validity of the DNU -which has been in force since Friday, April 16-.
"It corresponds to sustain non-face-to-face educational continuity or in a virtual context until April 30, 2021 at all levels and in all its modalities in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) agglomerate," they expressed through a letter.
The text was promptly sent to the Coordinating Board of Associations of Private Education of the Argentine Republic (COORDIEP);
the National Board of Private Education (JUNEP);
the Argentine Confederation of Private Education Institutions (CAIEP);
and the Higher Council of Catholic Education (CONSUDEC).
This Thursday, when asked about what will happen after April 30, Trotta replied that they will first analyze "the
epidemiological reality and the level of circulation" to define measures
.
"What we are proposing is for the metropolitan region, but we also analyze with the President the very different situation that the rest of the country is going through. In most of the provinces we have school attendance with strict protocols," he said.
