The video of a supposed wolf near Lake Seehamer caused a stir on Tuesday.

It has now been confirmed: The animal is actually a wolf.

Rottach-Egern

- It's a wolf.

That was the result of the analysis of the video that a stranger recorded from inside the car.

As reported, the image of the mighty animal trotting powerfully across green meadows is circulating on social media.

The District Office had forwarded it to the State Office for the Environment for examination

The result is now available.

The time and place were also confirmed.

Wolf spotted near Seehamer See: Experts suspect a single animal wandering through

Accordingly, the wolf was on Monday afternoon in the Miesbach district. According to reports, the animal was sighted near the Seehamer See. “Unfortunately, the resolution of the video is too poor to be able to determine the street with absolute certainty, nevertheless: The colleague from the Rosenheim State Building Authority who viewed the video thinks that the street that can be seen is around the district road MB 18, section 120, is from Bruck to Großseeham, ”confirms a press spokeswoman for the Rosenheim State Building Authority. "It would also fit that the foothills of a lake can be seen in the background of the video, so it would have to be the Seehamer See."

"The behavior of the wolf is inconspicuous," says a spokesman for the state office: "We are assuming a single animal migrating." Especially now, during the mating season, young males in particular traveled very long distances in search of their own territory, every day 50 to 70 kilometers or more.

So far, there are no loyal animals in Upper Bavaria.

"Without a genetic analysis, individualization, i.e. the determination of gender, origin and, if necessary, assignment to the parent pack is not possible," says the expert.

After sighting in the district of Miesbach: Almbauer demands hunting rights for wolves - "danger to our grazing cattle"

District alpine farmer Anton Maier is a member of the Rottach municipal council and made the wolf an issue there.

Maier complained about the protection status of wolves: "In the alpine region used for agriculture and tourism, wolves are not in demand." Last year wolves were spotted in Mittenwald and Reit im Winkel.

“They pose a threat to our grazing cattle,” Maier explained.

If several wolves come together in a pack, the alpine farmers are lost.

“We have to wake up!” He shouted and demanded that the mayors, communities, districts and also the tourism organizations in the entire Alpine region stand up and put pressure on the Ministry of the Environment so that the wolf is included in the hunting law.

“We have to form an alliance so that we can achieve something.” Mayor Christian Köck also sees a problem in the individual wolves - regardless of whether they just pull through or stay.

Above all, Köck sees potential for conflict in tourism.

The partner community Castelrotto in South Tyrol has already had experiences with a wolf at the popular excursion destination Alpe di Siusi, reported Köck, who found out more about it.

His conclusion: "The predator should not be at home here."

Wolves in Upper Bavaria: Mayor sees potential for conflict in tourism - "Predators shouldn't make their home here"

The wolf is not suitable for recreational use in the mountains, and the farm animals on the alpine pastures should not become prey.

Köck does not consider the measures proposed by the Ministry of the Environment, such as fences or even guard dogs, to be feasible and not very effective.

Nevertheless, Köck advises calmness: "We shouldn't panic now, but we should jointly think about how to deal with the wolf along the entire edge of the Alps and with the authorities."
