Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is attending the online climate conference hosted by US President Joe Biden, this evening (Friday) presented his environmental vision, and Israel's commitment to the fight against global warming during a speech at the event.

Netanyahu announced that Israel will stop generating electricity by burning coal in 2025, and will switch to using renewable energy by 2050.

"I thank US President Joe Biden and his team for hosting the online climate conference to which we all attach great importance. I have known President Biden for about 40 years, and I know how deep his commitment is to decisive action on climate change. We, in the State of Israel, are partners. We are full of this commitment, "the prime minister said in his opening remarks.

Netanyahu went on to say: "I pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and successfully complete the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in Israel by 2050. If there are no unforeseen circumstances, within four years from now - that is, by 2025 - no more coal burning will take place in Israel."

The Prime Minister went on to say: "Over the past five years, Israel has increased its energy output from solar radiation from 2% to almost 10% this year. We have set ourselves a goal that by the end of the current decade we will generate more than a third of our electricity through renewable energy. "Solar energy. My government and I are investing considerable efforts in solving the challenge to make Israel a world leader in energy storage. This will allow us to bring about a real revolution in the use of renewable energy."

As mentioned, the prime minister was invited to the conference, along with other leaders from around the world, by the American president and she deals with global warming, and the fight against the climate crisis - a topic that President Biden put in mind when he entered the White House.
