In 2022 the "Rigi-Rutsch'n" will celebrate its 40th anniversary.

A proud age that you can't really tell from the bathroom.

Although the landmark of the outdoor pool, the large slide system, had to be dismantled due to damage to the synthetic surface, the company building in particular is in top condition.

Peißenberg - The permanent lockdown in the course of the Corona crisis naturally also affects the "Rigi-Rutsch'n".

The pool park has been closed since November 2020, only patients in the outpatient rehabilitation center are currently allowed to use the indoor pool.

For the team around swimming master Hannes Meyer, that doesn't mean that they have nothing to do.

But on the contrary.

The compulsory “rest period” was used extensively for renovation and repair work - and most of it was done in-house.

More than a professional relationship

The market council group of the citizens' association was recently able to convince itself of the commitment of the pool park employees.

Cornelia Wutz, Stefan Rießenberger and Matthias Reichhart let Hannes Meyer show them around the outdoor area and through the company building.

It was a special kind of tour: Meyer and the “Rigi-Rutsch'n”, that's more than a professional relationship.

The swimming master is there with body and soul, for him the "Rigi-Rutsch'n" is a kind of passion.

Especially when it comes down to the catacombs of the company building, Meyer can hardly be stopped while telling the story.

The technology, so to speak, the heart of the pool park, is installed in the basement. From there, the pool water is fed to the swimming pool via eleven pumps via huge filter tanks. The backflow takes place via the splash water basins, which were only modernized last year. The scenery resembles that of a larger ship's engine room. The basement also houses the heating and ventilation systems, a workshop, a storage room for chemical cleaning agents and disinfectants, a washing machine room for the rehabilitation center and several storage rooms. Everything neat, tidy and labeled. No trace of fire damage. In 2016, when the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” restaurant burned down, a lot of fire-fighting water flowed into the cellar. “Back then, after the fire, it was said that we should look for other jobs,” recalls Meyer.Employee motivation was at its lowest point. But there have long been no more doubts about the pool park's continued existence. The Corona crisis does not rob Meyer of optimism either: “We have already prepared everything for the summer season. I assume that it will take place. ”A lot has changed on the outdoor pool area compared to the previous season - and not just because the landmark is temporarily missing.

The roofed grill station with four stainless steel grill devices has now been completed.

The "Essenspark" is completed with table and seating sets.

Meyer and his team screwed these together themselves.

Mounds of earth were also removed to create an additional area of around 500 square meters for the lawn.

A roundabout for therapy sessions was also set up for the rehabilitation patients.

During the regular opening times, it can also be used by bathers as a place of retreat, for example for reading.

Sand at the children's playground had to be replaced

Furthermore, according to regulations, the sand at the children's playground had to be replaced again after five years - “because of the bacteria”, as Meyer reported on the tour. The 40 benches were sanded down, the outdoor sanitary facilities were brought into shape, and a broken pipe was mended in the large swimming pool. And then, like every year, repair work on cracked pool edge tiles was due. The damage cannot be avoided because the winter cold affects the material enormously. "A small hairline crack is enough to trigger a chain reaction," explains Meyer: "The tiles may look nice, but maintenance is an enormous effort." In winter sports resorts in Austria, for example, only stainless steel pools are built. Speaking of tiles:In the interior of the old sauna, Meyer and his team have renewed and pimped up the grouting of the small mosaic tiles. The sauna area now looks like new again. Meyer estimates that the Bäderpark team has saved around 60,000 euros in the most recent renovations and repairs through its own work, a large part of it when the slide system was demolished independently. As is well known, the new landmark of the bath park is to be even bigger and more attractive - and to be ready by the anniversary celebrations in 2022. “The new building will take about six to eight weeks,” estimates Meyer. A specialist company will be commissioned with the work - as an exception. The Bäderpark team saved the most recent renovations and repairs through its own work, a large part of it when the slide system was demolished independently. "We have an old bathroom, but not an old one"

According to the business plan of the Peißenberger Gemeindewerke, the “Health and Bath Park” division will probably cause a deficit of 767,000 euros in 2021.

"First of all, that is a shocking number," admits plant manager Ingrid Haberl in an interview with the local newspaper.

However, the deficit must be viewed in a differentiated manner.

Compared to other pools, one can be “very satisfied” with regard to the operating costs. In addition: “We have to become much more aware that the bathroom also has real value. That is capital, ”emphasizes Haberl. A well-known pool planning office, with which the Peißenberger Gemeindewerke work together to further develop the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” conceptually and in terms of infrastructure, estimate the value of the pool park to be between 40 and 50 million euros.

"Nobody could build a bathroom like this these days," says Haberl. The employees' own contribution to care and maintenance would also have a positive effect on the appearance of the outdoor pool and the sauna area: “We have an old bathroom, but not an old one,” says Haberl - and: “We will have a beautiful bathroom for many decades to come .
