Bad news for the Israeli tourist arrives today (Friday) from one of the most popular tourist destinations in recent weeks - Cyprus. In light of the increase in morbidity on the island, which in recent days has reached more than 900 verified per day (the population of Cyprus is about one tenth of the population of Israel), now (Friday afternoon) Health Minister Konstantinos Iuan announced that the island will be closed for two weeks from Monday, April 26, until May 9.

Cyprus is particularly feared for mass gatherings during Orthodox Easter, which begins on "Friday before Easter" on April 30, and continues on Easter itself on May 2-3. This is one of the most important holidays on the island, most of whose inhabitants are Orthodox Christians. The authorities fear a rise in morbidity as a result of gatherings in churches and homes.

The move is particularly bad news for thousands of Israelis already on the island, and for many thousands more who have booked flights and vacations on the island, who recognized the Israeli vaccine certificate and do not require isolation or testing from vaccinated Israeli tourists.

The restaurants are currently open on the island, but the clubs are closed and performances (even in restaurants) are prohibited. However, all this will change on Monday: the restaurants will be closed, the night curfew will begin at 21:00, and traffic will be allowed only once a day by sending a dedicated message. Under these conditions, it seems that the tourists will prefer not to come to the island, at least in the coming weeks.
