The premiere for Katharina Schön was a success.

The first day of sale from the unpackaged mobile in Baierbrunn coincided with the first days on which she was on the road with her truck at all.

Baierbrunn - Baierbrunn across from the maypole: This is actually not the place where crowds of people normally gather. Nevertheless, a few people met here on Tuesday, who then headed for a car painted olive green one after the other. And then they went shopping there, at Katharina Schön's “Unpackaged Truck”, which in future will drive to the small community once a week. Anyone who wants to can stock up on cereals, nuts, pasta and rice for one and a half hours - with everything being bottled specifically for the respective customer. The best thing, of course, is to bring your own containers. The things are all organic.

At the premiere: the best atmosphere in the square. The first curious people had already gathered in front of the Raiffeisenbank at 1 p.m. when the olive-green, appropriately converted Mercedes Sprinter turned the corner at the Gasthof zur Post for half an hour: big hello. Katharina Schön got out, flipped a side door of her truck up to the roof of the shop, stood behind her cash register - and off we went.

This offer was “wonderful”, said Katja Klotz, who was also the very first to shop in the mobile unpackaged store. The mother, who came with her husband and two children, said she was trying to avoid packaging where she could. She had been washing her hair with a hair soap for a long time and was rinsed off with knitted dishcloths. Another woman in a striped T-shirt said she would stock up on nuts, noodles, rice right now, “let's see what's there”. Shortly afterwards, ÜWG councilor Alexander Lechner arrived with a glass of quinoa and berry muesli. He was beaming.

The first day of sales from the unpackaged mobile in Baierbrunn coincided with the first days on which Katharina Schön is out and about with her mobile company. She had only just started her business on the previous Friday. After Starnberg and Geretsried, the smallest municipality in the Munich district was its third stop. In future it will also be represented at the weekly markets in Pullach and in the Fasangarten.

Environmentally friendly shopping is very important to her, she said in the evening on the phone: “We try not to cause any packaging waste at home.” Before Corona, she traveled to South America with a husband and two children, with a camper. They then had to cancel the adventure because of the pandemic. At the same time, the business administrator learned that her employer, a company in the sports and fashion sector, had filed for bankruptcy. “During the night when it was clear that we were going home, I was thinking all the time about what to do now. At some point I came up with the idea of the truck. ”She liked the idea of being able to continue driving, albeit in less exotic surroundings.

She has 250 to 280 items in its range, from around 30 suppliers she gets lunch boxes made of stainless steel, lids for coffee-to-go cups made of tree sap, straining cloths made of organic cotton, then all kinds of soaps, sweets such as peanuts coated with whole milk, as well as a wide variety Varieties of muesli, cereals, nuts. The prices are, she says, health food store level. She doesn't have any fruit or vegetables, as an elderly lady in Baierbrunn was slightly disappointed to find out. But she went shopping anyway.

The experience of the first few days far exceeded her expectations, said the 40-year-old Wolfratshauser and sounded extremely satisfied.

Actually, she only wants her mobile shop open in Baierbrunn for one and a half hours, every Tuesday from 1.30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

But on the very first day there, she had to pull over, too many customers had come.

"That was very enjoyable."

Incidentally, the recently founded village association has made sure that Baierbrunn is also on their route.

Mayor Patrick Ott (ÜWG) is also happy about the project: “I think that's a great idea.” Because the Baierbrunners finally have a shop on their doorstep again - there is usually only the Aldi in the idyllic village.
