Russia declared five employees of the Polish embassy in Moscow persona non grata, in response to a similar measure taken by this country against three employees of the Russian embassy in Warsaw.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by Russia Today: It summoned the Polish ambassador to Moscow, Kshishtov Krajevsky, and expressed to him its firm protest against the Warsaw decision against the three Russian diplomats, and said: The Polish decision is a provocation and came under a "ridiculous excuse" as well as new evidence of following Warsaw's approach to undermine and destroy bilateral relations.

The Russian Foreign Ministry held the Polish authorities responsible for almost completely freezing communications between the two countries in recent years.

The Russian Foreign Ministry gave the five Polish diplomats until the end of May 15 to leave the country.
