Dozens of firefighters are working to contain the
large fire
that broke out shortly before 6 p.m. this Thursday at the Australtex textile plant, located in the Rio Grande Industrial Park.
"It got out of hand," said Daniel Calisaya, a company delegate, who also explained that the flames started
in one of the machines in the dry cleaning sector
, where there were between 15 and 20 workers who were unharmed.
Municipal Traffic, Municipal Civil Defense, Provincial Police, Police Firefighters Division, Volunteer Firefighters and provincial Civil Protection personnel work at the site, while people from the Río Grande Regional Hospital remain in the vicinity in the event of a possible emergency.
On the other hand, the Provincial Director of Civil Protection, Pedro Franco, explained that "the system and the network against fires did not work", so that the fire "takes enormous proportions and
is dangerous to spread
in the sectors of other firms
that are very attached to this plant ".
"What still contains the fire are
the thick concrete walls
, which act as a firebreak. It is about cutting off the spread so that it does not reach the deposit sector of the Australtex factory," he added.

Meanwhile, the surrounding buildings and businesses
were evicted
, as were all the workers at the plant, due to the risk of spreading the fire and the danger of the smoke.
The suffocation tasks are expected to extend
throughout the night and into the early hours
of this Friday.
From the Government of the province we sympathize with the workers of the Australtex company at this very painful moment.

As revealed by Calisaya in dialogue with El Fueguino, two days ago an inspection had been carried out at the site and
several security flaws
had been detected
, which even previously had generated early fires that were quickly controlled.
For its part, the Government of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands shared a message of support through its official Twitter account: "From the Government of the province
we stand in solidarity
with the workers of the Australtex company in this painful moment. "
