In the video: IDF weapons riots provoke Druze protest in Golan (Walla system!)

The heavy fire also reached the northern Golan Heights on Monday.

Remnants of snow on the slopes of Mount Hermon reminded me that a week and a half earlier the winter tail had brought with it a brief snowstorm.

Not only did the snow stains look strange in the face of the heat: a display of combat equipment set up by the IDF near Birkat Ram, on the outskirts of the Druze community of Masada, was an unusual sight.

This is the first time such an exhibition has been held in the Druze communities in the Golan Heights. The most prominent opposition to cooperation with the IDF was Sadaki al-Makat, a resident of Majdal Shams who served two prison terms for security offenses, and a year ago was released as an Israeli tribute following the return of Zechariah Baumel's body to Israel.

"Not for the militarization of education in the Golan," al-Makat wrote in light of the claim that the Druze local authorities in the Golan intend to bring the school students to the exhibition.

"We want to do an exhibition of killings and crimes, and we want to bring our student to participate in this betrayal theater. Do not send your children," added al-Makat, who also held a demonstration in which few participated.

Druze clerics in the Golan also called for a boycott of the exhibition and not to participate in it.

Hossam Farhat ignored those voices.

He was sitting in an infantry (chariot APC) and a soldier from the Givati Brigade explained to him how to handle the large armored vehicle and its impressive capabilities.

Farhat is the security officer of the Buqata local council.

Of course he was aware of the debate over the display set up by the IDF, but in his view this move should become routine. "This is the Israel Defense Forces.

Israel protects itself and its citizens and we are part of those citizens.

The army cares about the home front and we want to learn how the army protects civilians and how it behaves in combat.

"The IDF does not throw oil barrels and does not use chemical weapons like any other army because it does such things."

He knows that the voice he makes is unusual among the vast majority of Druze residents of the Golan, but he claims that there are many others who say this not in public, but are still afraid to do so in public.

The one who is not really afraid is Fahd Safdi from a restaurant.

Safdi, a lawyer, is one of the most prominent voices among the Druze in the Golan Heights, calling for integration into the life of the state.

As he walks down the street near the main square in Majdal Shams, passers-by approach him and shake his hand.

Not sure he knows anyone personally, but they're probably watching his weekly Facebook broadcast.

In Facebook broadcasts, he whips clerics and pro-Syrian activists.

Last week, Sudki al-Makat received a booze from him.

In the parking lot where the IDF display is displayed, it is as if he is continuing the broadcast from last night. "Our leadership is cowardly, it must go out against Sudaki al-Makat the terrorist.

We need to answer him, "he said.

Between the camouflage position and the delicacies market

"Heritage and fraternity parking lot" is written on the sign at the entrance. Meanwhile, apart from Safdi and Farhat, no other visitors came to see the show, on Monday afternoon. "It's a Sunday for the show, now it's the middle of the school day, in the afternoon families will come," Safdi tries to convince, and in general he explains that he will not see the failure of the initiative even if a few come.

"The quantity does not determine, even if only 30-20 visitors come every day, that's fine. This is the beginning of the integration process, it's a matter of time before this process intensifies," he said. "Dalal al-Mughrabi from the bloody bus on the coastal road and Samir Kuntar. Today people prefer to send their children to local authorities' camps," Safdi said.

Another step that symbolizes joining the army and state institutions is the intention to open short courses in the IDF, after which the participants will be able to be considered reservists and enlist in the Home Front Command when necessary.

Farhat is also convinced that in the future many will behave like him and like Safdi.

He believes one of the reasons opponents' voices were heard last week was the problematic timing of the show's opening: "The show was announced on April 17 as Syrian Independence Day. It only gave a platform to opponents who used the symbolic date. I'm sure more people will come next year and next year. After that, even more. "

After the two are photographed on a chariot tank and finish talking to the soldiers, the uniformed men return to rest in the shade.

A bus with retirees from Jerusalem provides them with some renewed interest.

They rush to explain to them about the vision equipment, the camouflage stand and the snowmobiles, but it turns out that most of the retirees have just crossed the showroom on their way to the delicacies market of Golan farmers whose prominent products are the renowned Golan apples and bloody honey.

"Things need to be on the table"

A video projected on a large television screen shows the thwarting of terrorist attacks on the perimeter fence between Israel and Syria and footage indicating Hezbollah's attempts to establish itself near the border and some of the older travelers stopping to watch it.

"The IDF's main presence in the Druze localities in the Golan is to protect them," explains Dolan Abu Salah, head of the Majdal Shams local council, who also came to the show at a certain point. well.

They should know who the people who do this work are.

"I see great importance in honoring the IDF forces that set up the exhibition here."

"A person wants security, peace and quiet, but when there is a publicity for those who take care of it, he is afraid to approach here. It is a wrong formula and empty of values and content. Things should be on the table," he explained.
