"I'm in!" Transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner wants to become governor of California.
The 71-year-old, who belongs to the Kardashian family clan, announced.
You want to put an end to the "catastrophic" term of office of the Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, it said in a statement.
Jenner is probably the best-known transgender activist in the United States.
As Bruce Jenner, she won gold in the men's decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
She also became popular as the stepfather of starlet Kim Kardashian on their reality series.
Today she appears as a transgender activist.
She had already indicated a possible candidacy for the governorship in the US state of California at the beginning of April - now, according to the announcement, she has also submitted the necessary forms.
"California is worth fighting," Jenner wrote on Twitter, calling for donations for her campaign.
California has been her home for almost 50 years.
In the past ten years, however, the state's “splendor” has been reduced by “one-party rule”.
Jenner is a Republican and must be prepared for competition from within her own ranks.
In addition to her, several Republican politicians have already announced their intention to challenge Newsom.
Jenner once described himself in an interview with the US magazine “People” as “economically conservative, socially progressive”.
