Affected by the epidemic, Hong Kong students have relied on online courses from time to time for more than a year. The online tutoring platform AfterSchool, established in 2018, has a greater effect on students in need during the epidemic.

The platform originated from two Hong Kong males born in the 90s. Two years ago, they seized the opportunity to promote online tutoring and provide free and paid courses. Recently, they have cooperated with Principal Chen's Free Tuition World to provide free online tutoring opportunities for grassroots students.

The main target is the HKDSE students, which has attracted more than 50,000 students so far, of which more than 16,000 are recent candidates.

The platform also recruits cooperative tutors. If the teacher promises to comply with the fee and free student ratio of 2:1, the monthly salary is not less than 30,000 yuan.

Wang Weifeng, co-founder of AfterSchool, originally worked in an investment bank and was responsible for approving company applications.

He said that he noticed the investment in online tutoring platforms a few years ago and believed that it had a positive impact on society and had long-term development potential. Therefore, he was obliged to provide assistance for a while. Later, he decided to quit his investment bank job and fully develop the online tutoring platform.

I was born in Hong Kong. I know that there is a gap between the rich and the poor in education. I want to reduce inequality and sustain development. I can use the form of a social enterprise to free basic-level students to attend classes. An online platform can avoid rent cost pressure or Not enough places.

The online tutoring platform has to face many technical challenges. The other founder of AfterSchool, Xie Zhifeng, said frankly that he felt frustrated in the early days of the platform and was supported by entrepreneurial competition bonuses or funding. It has persisted to this day, and has finally "improved" recently.

"Gold coins" exchange courses and book coupons to attract students to exchange learning experiences on the platform

Xie Zhifeng, who is studying for a Bachelor of Information Technology Education at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, combined education with technology, and developed a dedicated video teaching system with his team, and used big data to analyze the students’ missing points and unfamiliar parts, and then targeted the students. Weaknesses provide assistance.

In order to create an academic atmosphere, a discussion area is set up on the platform, and students can earn "gold coins" when interacting with them and redeem courses and book coupons.

He explained that the self-developed system is convenient to update according to needs and students' feedback.

Xie Zhifeng, the founder of the online tutoring platform AfterSchool, and Wang Weifeng, the co-founder of the online tutoring platform, hope that Hong Kong's education will become more equal, so the platform provides supplementary services.

If the instructor promises to solve the problem for the grassroots students free of charge, the minimum monthly salary will be 30,000 yuan

Looking forward to the future, the two intend to continue to serve Hong Kong students, develop towards innovative education, provide more diversified courses, and hire more teachers at the same time. If the teachers promise to comply: teach two fee-paying students, one will be offered free of charge. A basic-level student who provides support (including answering questions and correcting test papers) will receive a minimum monthly salary of 30,000 yuan.

The platform expects to provide free learning support to residents in girls’ homes, children’s dormitories and other institutions in the future. It also considers adding courses in foreign languages, programming, workplace skills, and job hunting to attract more students.
