Isn't the grammar school too difficult after such long distance lessons?

The Erdinger directors shake hands.

Erding / Dorfen - For almost 15 months there have been almost no regular classes due to the pandemic. This poses a special challenge for high school students. But families whose children are about to transfer to a secondary school after the fourth grade are also worried: Will my child grapple with all the deficits through distance and alternating classes in high school? The heads of the three grammar schools are aware of this fear. You try to disperse them.

"We often hear the question of whether what the children learned in fourth grade is enough," reports Regine Hofmann, director of the Anne Frank Gymnasium in Erding. “We can only answer this question in the affirmative.” Of course there are deficits in learning in all grades. Of course, not all learners have the same level of knowledge. And of course, children and parents are unsettled by the new regulations of the past few months and the strong self-reliance, Hofmann frankly admits.

She and her colleagues Andrea Hafner from the Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium and Markus Höß, Senior Studies Director at the Gymnasium Dorfen, want to encourage people to take the risk. "The children are not left alone," Hofmann assures, also on behalf of Hafner and Höß. "There are many factors that will help primary school students gain a foothold at the grammar school." As examples, she cites free afternoons up to eighth grade and the all-day offers with homework supervision.

The school principals assure that “the pupils will be accompanied by experienced teachers in the first year”.

There will also be funding opportunities in German, mathematics and the first foreign language.

School counseling teams, consisting of school psychologists, counseling teachers and school social workers, would work out strategies with the children "how learning and self-organization can be structured and managed," said Hofmann.

Parents should also not forget that after isolation and homeschooling, children are “hungry to learn again with others and to discover new things,” said the AFG boss.

The pandemic also hinders getting to know the future school.

However, all three grammar schools have come up with alternative solutions.

At the Anne-Frank-Gymnasium, individual tours are offered until the end of April, for which you can register by calling (0 81 22) 9 77 60 or by e-mail to verw@afg-erding.de.

The school tours at the Gymnasium Dorfen take place on Wednesday, April 28th, Friday, April 30th and Monday, May 3rd, starting at 2 p.m. and can be booked by email at tdot@gymnasiumdorfen.de.

For guided tours through the Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium, families register by e-mail to verwaltung@kag-erding.de or by phone (0 81 22) 90 99 40 to make an individual appointment for the week from April 26th to 30th.
