Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program, David Beasley, today, to provide aid to a number of countries, including Syria.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by Russia Today, "The two sides stressed, during a phone call that took place at the initiative of the World Food Program, the importance of activating international efforts aimed at combating famine in East Africa in light of possible disruptions in food supplies there as a result of the negative economic consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic."
The statement indicated that the two sides exchanged views on the current humanitarian situation and deepening cooperation between Russia and the UN program in order to provide food aid to Syria, Venezuela, the DPRK and Ethiopia and to the affected people in the Nagorno Karabakh region.
On the other hand, Lavrov and Beasley discussed preparations for the United Nations summit on food systems to be hosted in New York next September, stressing the importance of providing support to countries that need it without putting forward any political preconditions.
