The municipality of Poing is young and has many children - in the future it will also get older and need more care places.

And more help for seniors.

All of this is to come.

Poing - There are drastic words that Peter Maier chooses: "We also have a care emergency in Poing." The SPD parliamentary group spokesman and senior spokesman for the local council said on Thursday evening in the triple hall of the sports center.

The public meeting of the local council took place there, in which the topic of senior citizens was talked and discussed for a good two hours.

With his sentence, Maier pointed out that there was a waiting list for the Poing senior center.

The facility has 39 care places, four of which are short-term care places.

A total of around 60 people live in the senior citizens' center (including assisted living).

This is what it says on the website of the non-profit Pflegestern Seniorenservice GmbH, which, according to reports, will also operate the new senior citizens' home in Poing.

Poing: The need for seats doubles

This is to be built not far from the new Rewe store in Poing-Süd. According to Mayor Thomas Stark (independent), detailed plans will be discussed in the local council over the next few months. 105 fully inpatient places are planned, as well as day care and assisted living. There is not yet a specific schedule for implementation.

An analysis carried out by the Office for Spatial Development (BRE, Munich) on behalf of the municipality of Poing shows that there is a need and that this will increase in the next few years. Heike Pethe from BRE presented the results of the care needs planning at the municipal council meeting. As a result, the need will rise from currently around 80 to a good 120 places in 2033. The analysis thus confirms Peter Maier's statement: There are currently 80 people in need of care in Poing who need a home, but in the only senior center so far, there are only 39 (minus the Short-term places) available. By 2033, according to Pethe, there will be an additional need of around 95 places in inpatient care. Reason: The number of people aged 65 and over is increasing;the number of those over 85 years of age, for example, is forecast to double over the next few years to around 300 (from 2025 and thereafter the same).

Poing: New retirement home at the Rewe store

Full-time care is not the only thing that is lacking in Poing.

According to the demand forecast, this also applies to day care.

Franz Langlechner (CSU) brought up another point: household-related services and assistance for senior citizens who still live at home.

Here, too, there is a lack of sufficient offers in the municipality of Poing.

Like Peter Maier, Langlechner is a senior spokesman for the municipal council, and both are also active in the senior citizens' network.

Senior Citizens' Advisory Board Poing needs offspring

Apart from the care facilities, Maier and Langlechner see the senior citizens' work in Poing on a good footing, Langlechner even called them “exemplary” at the meeting.

Thanks to the full-time senior team, consisting of Kerstin Bachmann and Volker Sterker, as well as the senior advisory board that has been active and committed for decades.

With regard to this body, Günter Scherzl (FWG) said in the municipal council meeting that a key task for the near future must be "to win the next generation for the senior citizens' advisory board".

Some of the founders and those who are still active today are in some cases already of an old age.

Poing wants to become a dementia-friendly community

The senior citizens 'network in Poing is part of the senior citizens' network, which meets every six months (but currently not due to Corona). Members include representatives of the municipality of Poing, the senior citizens' council and numerous associations and organizations that deal with or actively work with senior citizens.

A senior citizen concept has been created since 2018 and is constantly being continued. Kerstin Bachmann and Volker Sterker presented the key points for 2021 at the municipal council meeting. This includes advice and information from the senior team, social participation, support for caring relatives and preventive offers. The main goal of this and other fields is to ensure that people can live at home for as long as possible. The mutual attention of citizens should also contribute to this. Volker Sterker said that Poing will participate in the "National Dementia Strategy" decided by the Federal Cabinet in July 2020: "We want to become a dementia-friendly community."
