Anyone who goes to bed with Gupstein, who will not be surprised to wake up from rockets in the Gaza Envelope

The shooting from the Strip brought the envelope back to the days before the Corona era, which led to one of the quiet periods remembered between the parties.

The purpose of Hamas' escalation is twofold - on the one hand to make it clear that the riots and the attack on the Arabs in Jerusalem are a red line, and on the other hand that the organization controls the arena in the face of Abu Mazen's helplessness

The events of last night, centered on the launch of 36 rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip, take us back to those distant days before the Corona era, when every few weeks there was a limited escalation between Hamas and Israel. The corona, it seems, led to one of the quieter periods known to the fighting between the parties, in parallel with the desire of Hamas and the Netanyahu government to maintain the status quo.

The State of Israel prefers and wants the Hamas regime, which maintains peace, over the option of war with the Gaza Strip. On the other hand, Hamas understands that the Netanyahu government is a partner with whom "business" can be done under the table. This is not, God forbid, a negotiation between the parties, but secret agreements on a variety of facilitations that will lead to an improvement in the situation in Gaza and a strengthening of Hamas' hold on the Gaza Strip.

The renewed firing tonight does not necessarily herald a change in Hamas policy.

The organization does not want a large-scale escalation but does seek to produce a controlled and spot-on escalation.

Proof of this is that most of the rockets landed in open areas, and if Hamas wanted to hit populated settlements it could have done so.

In addition, those responsible for the shooting were the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Front, which undoubtedly received the blessing of Hamas and the military wing of the organization.

Indeed, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, issued a statement last night stating that there would be a response from them to the attack on Jerusalem.

The goal of controlled escalation is twofold.

First, with the Netanyahu government, Hamas sends a clear message to Israel - whoever goes to bed with Benzi Gupstein, that he will not be surprised to wake up from rockets in the Gaza Strip.

In other words, "we," Hamas, will not allow gangs of dozens and sometimes hundreds of Jewish racists to rage throughout East Jerusalem and harm Arabs and Arab homes.

Of course, they have no problem, God forbid, with harming Jews and with dozens of Arabs trying to harm Jews, but Hamas draws an imaginary and unimaginative red line that says "Jerusalem is a red line."

Or in Arabic, "Al-Quds, Hat Ahmar."

This is an old slogan that always works on the Palestinian side, and the Israeli side still for some reason tends to lighten its head and ignore it.

Also, when Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana refers in his statements only to Arab attacks on Jews, it is accepted on the other side as real legitimacy on the part of Israel for harming Palestinians throughout Jerusalem.

This message is of course also related to Israel's detention activities against senior Hamas figures in the context of the election, and the organization seeks to create an equation or a warning message to the Netanyahu government: hitting us in the West Bank and Jerusalem will be answered by rockets from the Gaza Strip.

In the run-up to the PA elections, Hamas is once again portrayed as controlling the arena.

The second target, as always, is a Palestinian face. Hamas is once again portrayed as the owner of the initiative and in control of the Palestinian arena in the face of the helplessness and inaction of the Palestinian Authority / Fatah / Abu Mazen. This is against the background of the understanding that Hamas and the Abbasid Authority intend to come down from this tree called Palestinian elections. The chairman of the PA knows that in the face of the split in the opening of parliamentary elections, it could end in a painful defeat, even more so than in 2006, so his people make statements such as "Jerusalem is a red line" in the context of the elections this time. Abu Mazen tries to use the Israeli alibi to save Fatah from defeat.

Of course, the fact that this is the sensitive period of the month of Ramadan does not contribute, and regularly helps Hamas to inflame the passions.

And so the rocket fire from Gaza, against the background of the riots in East Jerusalem, allows Hamas to present Abu Mazen at the height of his weakness and misery: not only as someone who escaped elections with a variety of excuses, but also as unable, willing and able to create a deterrent in case of Israeli "harm" in Jerusalem.
