Armenian President Armen Sarkissian called on the countries of the world to condemn the genocide that the Armenian people were subjected to at the hands of Ottoman Turkey and to name their perpetrators and to punish them because impunity generates new crimes.

Sarkissian said in a message to the Armenian people on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the genocide that the Armenians were subjected to at the hands of the Ottomans, “The world should realize that the policy of silencing the Armenian genocide and leaving it in the past or denying it has exhausted itself long ago. Genocide is a crime against all humanity and indifference. Impunity generates new crimes, and these crimes and their perpetrators should be named after themselves. ”

Sarkissian added, "The pain of the tremendous loss of lives and lands that the Armenian people suffered for more than a hundred years is still in our hearts and reminds us that the right of this people to live in peace, security and development in their homeland was violated first in the Ottoman state and today in Artsakh."

Sarkissian stressed that the events prove once again that recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide are necessary to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.

In turn, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Armenian people in Armenia and the diaspora are determined to fight for justice and the truth, which the brute force of the Turkish regime tries to deny, and indeed continues its hostilities against the Armenian people.

"This struggle will continue until Turkey finds the strength to recognize the Armenian Genocide and take measures to eliminate its consequences," the ministry said in a statement, noting that the perpetrators of this crime remained unpunished inspires those who plan new international crimes.

The ministry added, "The Armenian genocide that occurred at the beginning of the twentieth century was an organized crime of unprecedented scale targeting the Armenian people living in the Ottoman Empire and killing 1.5 million Armenians."

For his part, His Holiness Catholicos All-Armenian Kariken II pointed out that the genocide of the Armenian people was the first crime in the twentieth century to be committed against humanity.

In a message commemorating the genocide, His Holiness said, "More than a century has passed since the Armenian genocide, which was planned and implemented by Ottoman Turkey ... Our people who were subjected to extermination spread all over the world leaving one and a half million martyrs in their historic homeland."

The Catholics stressed the importance of strengthening unity among the Armenian people and working to protect their rights in order to build a prosperous and bright future.
