The Kwun Tong Waterfront Musical Fountain, which cost half a billion, was officially opened on Thursday (22nd). However, since its construction, disputes have continued and the public criticized it as a "little white elephant" project.
Many citizens visited the fountain on the first day of its opening. However, some netizens posted on social media yesterday (23) that some of the facilities had been damaged on the second day of the fountain’s opening and were being sealed for repairs. Netizens ridiculed it as " Tofu dregs fountain".
The musical fountain at the Kwun Tong Waterfront Garden was opened on the 22nd. However, on the second day of its opening, the fence was fenced and a notice was posted saying "Be careful not to approach". The expensive fountain seems to be not very durable. The photo shows the water column. The water volume is weak and the fountain floor is uneven.
The netizen who posted the post said that the on-site security said that the interactive water area had too many children to play on the first day, so the floor was uneven and it has been fenced up for repairs.
Some netizens commented that the maintenance cost of the fountain may be higher than the construction cost. I am afraid they will continue to request government funding for maintenance; some netizens criticized the poor design of the fountain, mocking it as the "tofu dregs fountain", which is broken after only one day of use, and it is not durable. .

In 2013, the then Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying proposed a key community project plan. The Kwun Tong Waterfront Musical Fountain is one of the district projects. Because the cost of the musical fountain is as high as about 50 million yuan, the project has been approved as a "little white elephant" project for many years and has caused dissatisfaction. With less opposition, the Public Works Subcommittee of the Legislative Council approved the funding application for the Kwun Tong Waterfront Musical Fountain Project at the end of 2018.
Kwun Tong District Councillor, Leung Hoi Ching, and Chung Kin Wah, a member of the East Kowloon Community Concern Group, applied for judicial review and requested that the decision be overturned. However, because the Legal Aid Department refused to grant legal aid, the two finally withdrew the review application and were ordered to pay 220,000 Yuan litigation costs.
