The disappearance on April 4, in his villa in Tuscany, of the Canadian economist Robert Mundell (89 years), "the spiritual father of the euro", was little greeted in France.

As a theorist, Robert Mundell described the advantages for sovereign states to come together in a monetary union, while setting out the conditions for the union to be effective.
Symbolically, the Nobel Academy in Stockholm awarded it its prize in October 1999, when the euro was worn on the baptismal font on January 1, 1999.
Obviously, the single currency constitutes a crown for Europe, facilitating the exercise of the four great freedoms
