"Happy and satisfied" was Gertraud Baierl, the director of the St. Quirin community library in Kranzberg: 47 years after the library was founded, the bookcase was opened.

Kranzberg

- Actually, the new gem on the parking lot behind the Kranzberg town hall is hard to miss: the book cell is covered with fire-red foil.

As Baierl said at the official opening of the bookcase, it was not expected that it would be such a “laborious” process until the book cell became a reality.

Because all you really needed was a Telekom phone booth and "one square meter of space".

Realization took a long time - library employees picked up the phone booth in Potsdam

However, it was not up to the municipality that the small but fine project had dragged on for a year since the application was submitted in April 2020. Because the municipality quickly decided to take over half of the costs. Then the parish “could no longer go”, described Pastor Anton Erber the approval of the church to take over the other half of the costs.

There were delays because Telekom was unable to keep the delivery of the phone booth announced for the third quarter of 2020, according to Baierl. In February, employees of the community went to Potsdam and picked up the house. Then a carpenter set about creating a small temple of books out of the telephone booth, which is now open to every citizen free of charge. You can read on the door how it works with the bookcase: If you want, you can bring a book that appeals to the broadest possible audience. When he has sorted it - to the best of his knowledge and belief - he can take a book for it from the book cell. There are no formalities, it is up to each reader whether he or she brings the book back to the cell, keeps it,further lends or gives it to another bookcase.
