The Longyuan Natural Ecological Park was built by the Land Development Department, and the Fisheries and Conservation Department is responsible for the future management of the park.

He Jingxin, owner of the Nature Park of the Fisheries and Conservation Department, said that Longyuan has different habitats, including wet and dry farmland, shallow ponds, rice fields, fish ponds, swamps, etc. The biodiversity is very rich.

Therefore, the government hopes that through the construction of the Longyuan Natural Ecological Park, the ecological value of the Longyuan Wetland will be further maintained and enhanced, and more places for different organisms to forage, inhabit and multiply, and at the same time, it hopes to preserve the traditional farming methods.

Improving Longyuan Irrigation Channel

Zhou Xialu, an engineer from the Department of Land Development, added that the "ecological zone" in the park will maintain the biodiversity of the highland through the planting of designated crops and habitat management; the "agricultural zone" will allow farmers to cultivate in an ecologically friendly manner; the "visitor zone" Visitor facilities will be provided to allow the public to understand and appreciate the ecology of the Longyuan wetland, and to raise awareness of nature conservation.

The department will also improve the irrigation waterways in Longyuan, construct a purified wetland, and improve the quality of irrigation water in the park by means of sedimentation, plant filtration and sterilization by the sun.

Storage rooms will be set up at different locations in the park to allow farmers to store simple farm tools and equipment.

The Longyuan Natural Ecological Park will be divided into three areas, including "Ecological Area", "Agricultural Area" and "Visitor Area".

Restoration of dry land and abandoned farmland into wetland habitat

In addition, the Land Development Department will restore part of the dry land and abandoned farmland into wetland habitats, adding about 8 hectares of wetland to the entire highland.

The rice field is an important rest stop during the migration of the grass bird. In the middle of last year, the Land Development Department cooperated with Changchun Society, the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and Longyuan farmers to successfully plant about ten rice fields. Completed before the migration season, let the birds rest in the highland during their migration; and through the guidance of the farmers in the longland, repaired the former five water breeding fields, allowing the water breeding and bloodworms to reproduce in the water breeding fields, and provide the birds with a wealth of Food, as a result, attracts many birds, especially waterbirds, to come to forage.

Xu Shujun, Conservation Manager of Changchun Society, said that there is a whole area of farming freshwater wetland in Longgang, allowing farmers to continue farming, which will help increase its conservation value.

The environmental impact of Tuanji Project on the ecology is minimized

Changchun Social Conservation Manager Xu Shujun hopes to maintain the principles of conservation of the long plains in the details of the project and minimize the impact on the ecology.

During the construction period, Changchun News Agency reminded the engineering team to pay special attention to locations with high ecological value and avoid construction vehicles from walking on the relevant road sections; during the season when the phalaenopsis came to Hong Kong from October to December last year, specially reminded the scope of the project to avoid rice fields in order to facilitate grazing. The finches are foraging in the fields.
