Around 150 visitors came to the culture demo in Murnau on Saturday.

The motto was "Culture needs space again".

  • The culture demo of the Westtor Association attracted almost 150 interested people on Saturday.

  • The protest was completely peaceful.

  • The band Gamskampler had their first appearance since October 2019.

Murnau

- It was a different kind of protest. One that got along without hate sermons, lateral thinkers and fundamental criticism of the system. Instead there was music, socializing at a safe distance and good humor. "It would be nice if every event were so peaceful and organized," said Murnau police chief Joachim Loy about the culture demo that was organized on Saturday by the Riedhauser Westtorhalle. At Ödon-von-Horváth-Platz in Murnau, Loy counted just under 150 visitors - that was the maximum number allowed. The Ammertal band Gamskampler performed under the motto “Culture needs space again”. The trio played in front of a backdrop of assembled signs with painted messages such as “West gate remains” or “Drama baby! Art dies ”. In addition, Frank Vogler presented the background music and lyrics. The Murnauer is normally not on the road as a solo artist, but with the band "Die Zeitzeugen". The goal of it all: to draw attention to the precarious situation of freelance artists and to show that cultural events can take place despite Corona. According to the Westtor chairman Jakob Hamburger, the latter was "impressively demonstrated" during this creative protest.

Exemplary visitors

The visitors adhered to the rules of distance in an exemplary manner, sat in circles on the floor or spread out in front of the culture and conference center. Many passers-by and cyclists came spontaneously. Although neither dancing nor loud singing (because of the aerosols) was allowed, the atmosphere was relaxed. It was noticeable to the visitors that this one-hour musical interlude satisfied a longing. Many bobbed their feet to the beat - and even the police were tempted to nod their heads. It was also an emotional experience for the musicians: "We had our last performance in October 2019. It is special to play again after such a long break," said Gamskampler singer Manuel Herz. Loy also confessed that he thoroughly enjoyed the performance: “I like the music.“Hans-Dieter and Christa Necker could only agree with that. They came from Iffeldorf especially to visit the demo. "We have often been guests in the west gate hall and wanted to support the cause," they said.

Dinosaur brings joy

Also in the audience was Dr.

Robert Roithmeier, chairman of the People Help Association, which organizes the annual benefit open-air festival Kulturknall in the town.

He not only praised the discipline of the organizers and guests, but was also overjoyed: "It was really good to see several people and a cultural program." Finally, a dinosaur made people smile.

He collected donations for the musicians with a fruit picker.

Conclusion: You can make your demand for change peaceful and imaginative public.
