Operations against desert locust groups have continued after their deployment in separate locations in As-Suwayda Governorate.
The Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Eng. Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that scattered and varying groups of locusts spread yesterday afternoon in most of the countryside of As-Suwayda, south, southeast, east and north-east, reaching the western countryside due to the weather and the intensification of the southeast winds that pushed them to many areas. Within the governorate, where the monitoring teams followed the places of their movement, deployment and movement, and this morning began operations to combat them in cooperation with the local community in the places where they were established during the night hours.
Hamed explained that the total area of the lands covered by the struggle today reached 2,400 dunums, distributed in the sites of Khazma, Malah, al-Kars, al-Ayyun, and Qaisma with an area of 360 dunums, Sahwa al-Khader, Miamas 240 dunums, Habran 160 dunums, Dhibin 120 dunums, Hut, al-Qarya and Array 40 dunums in each of them in addition to a kanaker with an area of 240 dunums. Rassa and the western lands of As-Suwayda are 200 dunums each, and Al-Tha`la is 760 dunums.
Hamed indicated that the locust groups that are seen in the governorate areas are mostly classified as just passing with the movement of the winds, and their impact is limited and their movement is followed up by monitoring teams to deal with and control them in the areas in which they are established.
The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Sweida, in cooperation with the local community, struggled yesterday, groups of desert locusts after their re-emergence in separate locations in the governorate in the southern and northeastern countryside.
