On World City Twinning Day, the partnership committees in Chamalières and Geretsried are commemorating their march together.
A musical greeting in Corona times.
Geretsried / Chamalières - This Sunday, April 25th, is World Twinning Day.
On this occasion, the partnership committees in Chamalières and Geretsried are commemorating the march that Gerhard Meinl had Thierry Caens compose for the 35th anniversary of the town twinning.
It was performed at a gala concert with the Harmonie de Chamalières and the Geretsried Music School.
The two partnership committees are convinced: "It is a pleasure to listen to and watch this piece of music again (and again and again)," writes Edith Peter, chairwoman of the Geretsried-Chamalières partnership, in a press release. The committees recommend the video of the performance as a digital event for World Twinning Day. It can be found, for example, on the “B & S Markneukirchen” Facebook page.
"The march unites the German and French national anthems as well as folk music from Bavaria and the Auvergne in a very humorous and lively way, in keeping with our town twinning," said the chairwoman.
Personal meetings are currently not possible due to the corona pandemic.
The friendship between the two cities still exists.
The mayors Louis Giscard d'Estaing and Michael Müller recently met for the first time via video conference, reports Peter.
Further meetings are to follow - by video and, if possible, personally in small groups.
