Liang Yaozhong served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Stake for many years, but he retreated at the end of last year and did not participate in the re-election.

Last year, the June Fourth Movement was banned from gatherings for the first time. He and other members of the Stake Standing Committee entered the Victoria Park to light candles and were eventually charged with "inciting others to participate in an unauthorized assembly."

Liang Yaozhong issued a document the day before, alleging that he was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a one-year suspended sentence for participating in the anti-amendment "flowing rally" on August 18 of the previous year. His sentence was suspended for one year. Since his sentence was more than 3 months, his district council The seats will be taken away, and 36 years of parliamentary career will end.

He wrote that although seats can be taken away, "36 years of ideals and perseverance, no one can take away." He also pointed out that he participated in the founding of "street workers" and served the neighbourhoods, workers, disadvantaged groups and grassroots citizens for many years. Hong Kong's democratic system has done its utmost and never regrets the efforts and experience it has made in the past.

He pointed out that even if he loses his status as a councillor, he will still work hard to maintain the operation of "street workers."
