Sweida-Sana
The Directorate of Agriculture in Sweida, in cooperation with the local community, continues today to combat desert locusts in the sites where they appeared during the evening and dawn hours.
The Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Eng. Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the control included, since dawn, sites in Qarya, Rasas, West Sweida, and the nursery of the spring of Ara, Arman and Abed Mar in Salkhad, in addition to the continuation of the struggle in the town of Tha`la.
He indicated that the monitoring teams in the directorate continue to monitor the locust movement according to the wind movement and weather conditions, in order to deal with the groups that appear in the appropriate time with the provision of the necessary medicines and tractors to carry out the control operations.
The Director of Agriculture stated that the control areas, until yesterday, exceeded 8,500 dunams, indicating that the locust groups that are seen in the governorate areas are mostly classified as mere traffic with the movement of the winds and their impact is limited and their movement continues.
The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Sweida yesterday fought the desert locust groups that spread in locations on an area of about 2,400 dunams, noting that the first appearance of locusts in the governorate this season was about a week ago on the outskirts of the villages in the southeastern countryside.
