Alert in Buenos Aires and Bogotá for the occupation of beds 0:55

According to data from the Bogotá Health Observatory, the occupation of intensive care units (ICU) by covid-19 in the capital is 89.6%.

Due to these levels of occupation and the level of transmissibility of the virus, the Bogotá authorities declared a "red alert" on Sunday and extended the general quarantine.

The mayor, Claudia López, announced that from Monday, April 26 to May 9, the sale of alcohol and meetings are prohibited.

In addition, face-to-face classes were suspended.

The curfew begins at 8 pm this Monday.

Last week, the Colombian Ministry of Health recorded record numbers of daily deaths across the country.

The numbers of contagions improve in Chile 1:36

Carabineros in Santiago de Chile reported that they arrested at least 158 people on Friday for "violating current health regulations" to control the coronavirus pandemic.

The Carabineros Corps did not explain the specific reasons for the arrests.

A quarantine is currently in effect in the country to stop contagions, based on the Step by Step plan We take care of ourselves, through which the measures for a gradual reopening in the midst of covid-19 are updated.

The arrests occurred on the same day that the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved a bill that allows a third withdrawal of 10% of pension funds.

The government, however, considers that the measure is unconstitutional and that it will harm the pensions of Chileans in the future.

Brazil

According to Fiocruz, a Brazilian public health research institute, people between the ages of 20 to 29 reported the highest increase in deaths from COVID-19 among all adults between the beginning of January and mid-April.

These deaths increased 1,081%, according to data from the first epidemiological week of January compared to the second week of April.

Deaths and new cases increased in all adult age groups in the same period.

"The trend of 'enlargement' of the pandemic in Brazil continues," wrote Fiocruz.
