Bad Wiessee

- There have already been a few announcements, but little has been implemented: The company SME (Sports Medicine Excellence Group) has so far not broken a leg to protect the historic foyer on the former iodine bath site from decay.

After an on-site meeting, the Lower Monument Protection Authority had set a seven-day period within which the urgently required security measures must be commissioned by the owner.

This has obviously had an effect: As the district office announced on request, the deadline was met. Spokeswoman Sophie Stadler reports that an architect from Munich who was commissioned by the owner and had experience of historic monuments contacted the Lower Monument Protection Authority after examining the foyer. As is well known, the main aim is to protect the listed building from the ingress of rainwater.

Words must now be followed by actions.

"The emergency safety measures should now be carried out very promptly," explains Stadler.

In the coming week, the authority will again come to an on-site meeting "to see for themselves the progress".

In addition, the district office will involve the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation, it is said.

If the measures are not implemented as announced, the lower monument protection authority still reserves the right to carry them out by substitute performance at the owner's expense.

New development of the iodine bath area is still a long way off

In the meantime, a new building on the 18,000 square meter iodine bath site is still a long way off. As is well known, SME acquired the area in order to realize a high-quality hotel project and a medical center there. Last summer, the investor declared that the project - as planned - would not be economically feasible. Nobody in Bad Wiessee believes that SME will achieve anything here. According to Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD), a number of potential new investors who are interested in the site have already presented to the town hall. According to Kühn, there is currently no serious candidate. This is probably also due to the “very clear attitude” (Kühn) of the community. Kühn assures us that they are firmly adhering to the approved planning for a clinic and hotel project:"The local council has already cemented this will several times."
