CUHK President Tuan Chongzhi said: "Dr. Ma has served the Hong Kong judiciary for more than 20 years and has contributed a lot to the development of the legal profession and legal education in Hong Kong. CUHK is honored to invite Dr. Ma to be an Honorary Professor of Law. He has professional knowledge and rich experience. It will certainly bring great benefits to our students. Lutz-Christian Wolff, Dean of the Faculty of Law, added: "We are very happy to have Dr. Ma’s joining and contribute to the establishment of the school. De Trifan, classmates and colleagues will benefit a lot from communicating with him."

Ma Daoli retired in January this year and is currently serving as a door tenant at Brick Court Chambers, a British law firm.

He is also a patron of the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law and a patron of the International Advocacy Training Institute.

Last month, Ma Daoli discussed the rule of law and judicial independence in an online forum held by Gray's Inn, a law school in the United Kingdom. He rarely commented on the "Minato National Security Act", saying that the appointment of a judge by the Chief Executive is a strange arrangement. Caused dissatisfaction with some establishments.

Ma Daoli pointed out that the arrangement of the judge appointed by the National Security Law was strange to Liang Jiajie: he had the courage to criticize Ge Peifan improperly
