At least 31 soldiers were killed on Sunday on a road in northeastern Nigeria where jihadists linked to the Islamic State (IS) ambushed their convoy, two military officials said Monday morning.

In the terrorist ambush, we lost 31 soldiers, including their commander who was a lieutenant colonel,
" said a military officer on condition of anonymity.
This assessment was confirmed to AFP by another military official.
