A DRK employee is said to have drawn six syringes with only saline solution. The registered nurse, who is said to be around 40 years old, was entrusted with the task of preparing the syringes at the vaccination center. The employee apparently dropped an ampoule with the Biontech vaccine on the floor and broke, as reported by the NDR. Then she is said to have drawn up the syringes exclusively with the saline solution intended for dilution.
In order to cover up the mishap, the nurse did not say anything at first, according to the head of the vaccination center Uwe Nitsche. The incident is said to have occurred on Wednesday around 8 a.m. Only on Saturday evening (April 24th) did the employee confide in a colleague. This then informed those responsible. The nurse was then immediately released from her job. In the meantime, she has received notice from the German Red Cross. The Wilhelmshaven police have launched an investigation into suspected bodily harm. Friesland District Administrator Sven Ambrosy was appalled by the incident: "This case is deeply shocking and for me the top priority is now to contact the citizens concerned." It is important to prevent an incident like this.
