In the midst of the growth of coronavirus infections, and at a time when the national government must define whether to deepen the restrictions that govern until April 30, in the province of Buenos Aires they insisted on asking for "a strict closure of 15 days" that also include suspension from professional football.

The request was made by the Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Daniel Gollan, who stated that "you cannot start with the exceptions" if a measure of this nature is taken.

"

Professional football also has to be suspended

. We cannot start with the exceptions. It would be an example for society," the minister said in statements to

Channel 13

.

"Then they tell us 'they close schools but keep football.' Surely football moves fewer people, maybe 300 per game, but we must also suspend it and go to

a strict closure for 15 days

. When I say everything is everything," he stressed .

Gollan was concerned about the occupancy of therapy beds.

To explain his position, Gollan described the scenario of the second wave as "very serious" and spoke of the collapse of beds in intensive care, the consumption of oxygen in health centers and the contagiousness of the new strains.

"If firm decisions are not made and we advance in the meantime in vaccination, the image will be one of complete saturation of the system," summarized the Buenos Aires official.

And he added: "

We have a situation of 85% occupancy of beds

, which implies having hospitals that at times are at 110 percent."

Without euphemisms, the minister pointed out that the new strain is contagious more quickly and also affects young people: "It is terribly contagious. What took a few days to give symptoms, now young patients between 40 and 45 years old die. This is no more one of the older ones, it is touching everyone. It settled with a terrible speed and that is the difference with the previous wave ".

Gollan again pointed to the City for failing to comply with the presidential DNU, although he was "hopeful" with the latest statements from his Buenos Aires counterpart, Fernán Quiros.

"It is hopeful that last night Quirós recognized the degree of gravity and that he had been wrong. That will allow us to take a measure all together," he anticipated.

Indeed, the City's Health Minister had warned that if coronavirus cases do not decline, it will be necessary to discuss

"lowering public circulation

.

"

Vice Minister Diego Santilli also indicated that "they will take measures."

For now, the next few hours and the evolution of the cases will be key to strengthening the restrictions.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health,

6,820 new cases

were reported on Sunday

in the province of Buenos Aires

, while 2,701 positives were registered in the City.

The health portfolio directed by Gollan also specified that 31,574 people have died in the Buenos Aires territory since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.

Likewise, it was reported that 6,296,527 Buenos Aires signed up to receive the Covid 19 vaccine.
