President Emmanuel Macron told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a call on Monday that he is seriously concerned about Alexey Navalny's health and respect for his basic rights.
In a statement, the Elysee Palace said Macron asked Putin to pledge to reduce tensions with Ukraine and withdraw troops and weapons at the border, give a clear commitment to a ceasefire and a credible reactivation of the dialogue.

The presidents also spoke on the Caucasus, the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian, where Macron emphasized the need to advance humanitarian support and the preservation of historical monuments.
"The two presidents agreed to relaunch efforts within the Minsk group to achieve a lasting solution to the situation," the statement said.
Macron also asked Putin to support the ceasefire in Libya, its sovereignty and the withdrawal of foreign forces in the country.
