In a plenary session of commissions of Deputies,

without the presence of the legislators of Together for Change

, Minister Martín Soria sought to re-drive the

reform

project of

the Public Prosecutor's Office

, approved by the Senate and stopped in the Lower House.

The head of the Justice portfolio

targeted the current attorney Eduardo Casal

, threw chicanes at opponents and proposed modifications to the text to try to gather the votes.

This reform should not have a name and surname

. The interim prosecutor

will have to leave sooner rather than later

, "said Soria during his initial presentation before the Justice and Constitutional Affairs commissions, and continued:" Not because he was functional at the previous government's judicial table or because he is out there

protecting prosecutors who commit crimes

or press women prosecutors into an act of gender discrimination. He is going to end up leaving because he is precisely that,

an interim prosecutor

”.

The deputies of Together for Change decided not to participate in the plenary session on Sunday night - this Monday at noon the members of the national table supported that determination in a virtual meeting - due to the rejection of the reform and the methodology of the plenary, after that the ruling party demanded to advance the questions by mail.

“The lack of legitimacy of the Public Prosecutor's Office is generated by the longest term of office of the attorney in memory. It generated

a true paralysis

and a lack of leadership that ends up having repercussions on the rest of the body and the Justice system, ”Soria insisted with the questions to Casal, and accused him of not accepting a meeting with female prosecutors on proposals to incorporate a gender perspective : “

The reproach to the prosecutors

who requested a hearing was a

real

bummer

. An embarrassing, rogue attitude, especially coming from an interim prosecutor who said nothing about the prosecutors who secretly entered and left the Casa Rosada and Olivos before requesting an investigation or prosecution.

The Minister of Justice, a deputy until a few weeks ago, also charged harshly against the deputies of Together for Change. “It is striking that the same people who wanted to modify this law in 2016 and 2017

do not want to participate in this meeting today

, without even knowing the proposals and changes that we have been collecting. As always, the opposition for the opposition itself ”, he pointed out. Then it was harder: “They

are wrong. They decided to censor the debate before it starts. Every time worse. It is striking that they are so cheeky ”.

He even accused them of

"judicializing the pandemic"

in a clear allusion to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta who went to the Supreme Court for face-to-face classes,

The plenary session was led by the ruling party Rodolfo Tailhade -president of the Justice Commission- and Hernán Pérez Araujo, from Constitutional Affairs. Soria announced eventual modifications, after holding meetings with Carlos Rívolo (Association of Prosecutors), Marcelo Gallo Tagle (Association of Magistrates) and the General Defender of the Nation, Stella Maris Martínez. For the composition of the Prosecution Court, he spoke of

"improving the balance of representation"

and proposed integrating it with a representative of the Executive Power, two from the bicameral Public Ministry -one for the majority, another for the minority-, another from the University Council , a lawyer and two prosecutors. In turn, he announced that

the quorum will meet with four of the seven members

, for the warning an absolute majority will be necessary and for the removal two thirds.

The minister in turn proposed that the Executive Power elect the interim Attorney based on proposals from the bicameral, with a maximum of six months and with five years of seniority as a prosecutor instead of 10 years.

Soria, in turn, defended the provisions of the bill approved in the Senate in relation to the election of the Procurator by absolute majority (37 votes, instead of the current two-thirds) and the time limit of his mandate to five years, with the possibility of reelection for another five.

“I quote the words of the prosecutor Rivolo, who said that the Public Prosecutor's Office needs a definitive Prosecutor. A Procurator with sufficient legitimacy. With the accusatory system it will have greater power than before, it

is unacceptable that this monarchical hindrance of a lifetime position is maintained

, ”he argued. "Two different presidents have not been able to achieve those majorities and that is why today we continue to go through the longest internship that there is a record of someone who did not elect anyone," he returned to Casal. Alberto Fernández proposed Daniel Rafecas, but his statement remained immobile in the Senate.

“Those who say that independence is in danger presented a bill in which the president could suspend the Attorney General without the intervention of Congress. They set up the judicial table to persecute and imprison opponents ”, continued Soria with the criticism of Juntos por el Cambio.
