While vaccine shortages are felt strongly in many countries amid escalating coronavirus cases, the rate of vaccination in the United States is advancing rapidly.

Due to the success of the process, North Miami Beach Mayor Anthony F. DeFillipo began offering

free COVID vaccines

to international tourists traveling to his city.

In an interview he gave on Facebook, DeFillipo said that people only need to

present themselves with a passport and the address of the hotel

where they are staying to receive the vaccine, which in this case is the one produced by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

He also added that no one's visa will be withdrawn, and that North Miami Beach residents

are not going to run out of vaccines for this either

.

“This is what we have been doing and we have had thousands and thousands of people who have come through our door,” explained DeFillipo in the interview.

His administration has already contacted the consulates of Peru, Colombia and Honduras to inform their citizens that in the city of Florida you can receive the Pfizer vaccine against the coronavirus.

From the Twitter account of the Honduran consulate, they thanked DeFillipo, and also informed their citizens that the only requirements to access the vaccine were to present their

"current consular registration or passport

"

Beyond DeFillipo's announcement, the truth is that, strictly legally, in Florida there is still a mandate from the Department of Public Health that establishes that the coronavirus vaccine can only be applied to residents of the State.

Following this rule, to receive the vaccine it is

necessary to present proof of residence

, either through a property title, a rental contract, a ticket for a service that is no less than two months old, or a letter from a parent. child or legal guardian who establishes that a person is living in the home of the person doing the verification.

In a note about the DeFillipo initiative, the Univision site recalled

the anger that was generated last January in Florida

, after images of famous Argentines who had managed to apply the vaccine, along with numerous older people, became viral. 65 years old and with risk factors had been waiting for weeks without being able to do so.

More than half of American adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and last week President Joe Biden celebrated

surpassing 200 million doses

in his first 100 days in office.

He also acknowledged having entered a new phase to increase reach and overcome doubts.

Since last April 22, the COVID vaccine has been available to all adult residents of the United States.

It is believed that in a few months, the country could have a

surplus of up to 300 million vaccines.
