With the fully electric Taycan, Porsche has put a successful car on the road.

The sales figures are skyrocketing, Tesla is left behind with the Model 3 and Model X.

Stuttgart / Palo Alto - The Taycan is the first fully electric car from Porsche.

The model, which was launched in 2019, has since developed into a success story.

In 2020, in the first full year of production, the Stuttgart-based company sold almost 20,000 Taycans worldwide.

And it shouldn't have been.

This year, Porsche intends to double sales to 40,000 units.

The ambitious goal does not seem to have been drawn out of thin air.

According to Porsche, exactly 9,033 Taycans were delivered in the first quarter of this year, five times as many as in the same period of the previous year.

The electric car almost overtook the sports car icon 911, which found 9,133 customers.

By the way, the most popular Porsche model was the Macan with 22,458 units delivered, followed by the Cayenne with 19,533 vehicles.

Porsche sold a total of 71,986 vehicles worldwide, around a third more than in the first quarter of the previous year.

Porsche Taycan overtakes Tesla in the luxury class

In the luxury class, the Porsche has left Taycan Tesla far behind.

In the first quarter, the Californian company reported, 2,020 Model S and Model X were delivered.

However, the two models were not manufactured at all in the first three months due to modifications in the factory.

The Model 3 and Model Y sold 182,780 units.

There will only be a realistic comparison between the Porsche Taycan and Model S / X when Tesla has put the new production machines into operation.

Then it will show who the winning laurel in the electric car upper class belongs to.
