Starnberg

- The water level of Lake Starnberg is currently very low. That was the undoing of a sailing crew on Saturday. Around 6 p.m. the sailors performed various maneuvers in their dinghy in the Starnberg Bay. The boat suddenly ran aground about 100 meters from the Starnberg water rescue station and got stuck in the ground with the sword. A volunteer from the Starnberg water rescue service, who happened to be at the station at the time, overheard the crew's attempts to ask other boatmen for help. he had other helpers alerted who were on site a few minutes later.

In the meantime, the skipper's fellow sailors had been picked up by a motorboat, but this still did not provide enough buoyancy for the dinghy to detach by itself. Two water watchmen crossed from the lifeboat to the sailor. Together they tilted the sailboat to free the sword from the mud and reduce the draft. Finally the dinghy could be towed free with the water rescue service's motorboat.

Even if the water level does not seem that low compared to the annual mean, the currently low lake level harbors increased dangers. The police therefore recommend that boaters always watch exactly how far it is to the bottom in order not to run aground. However, should it ever come to that, the rescue workers of the Starnberg water rescue service are ready for action at any time via number 112 - even if the station is not manned.
