A senior officer in his Revolutionary Guardship was killed in a "security incident" in the northwest of the country, the state's official news agency Fares reported today.

The commander, Wahid Zarapshan, commander of the 310th Battalion of the Revolutionary Guards, was found dead near the town of Oceania, near the Iraqi border, in the Kurdish region of Iran.

The news agency Tala provided more details about the incident in which he was killed but cited unknown government officials who claimed that outsiders were involved in the assassination.

The media in northern Iraq estimated that the Kurdish underground, which is in a state of armed uprising against the Tehran regime, may be behind the act, but none of the rebel groups claimed responsibility for the incident.

Zarpshan will be brought for burial in the city of Nakda in central Iran.

This is a tragic case in which a senior member of the organization was killed in a security incident inside Iran's territory.
