Called to compete in the presidential election by some supporters of the left, the former minister said his "admiration" to those who "organize", in an interview with the magazine Causette. But she always leaves doubt about her intentions.

A light wave broke the radio silence. Discreet since her resignation from the Valls government in 2016, Christiane Taubira welcomed the initiatives calling for her candidacy for the 2022 presidential election, in an interview with the feminist magazine

Causette

to be published on Wednesday.

"It is not demagoguery to say that it touches me deeply,

" said the former Minister of Justice, without however dispelling the vagueness that remains around her intentions.

“I (...) have admiration and respect for those who organize themselves around my candidacy in a very active way, who feel concerned by our common fate, who express their preferences. And in telling you that, I have already told you a lot ...

As the left tries to unite for the Elyos election, Christiane Taubira hears the voices encouraging her to speak out.

The former minister Benoît Hamon wants a rally behind her, nearly twenty years after his candidacy for the 2002 presidential election on behalf of the Left Radical Party (2.32% of the vote at the time).

A collective of supporters, "Taubira for 2022", has been pleading in this direction since spring 2020, via publications on social networks, local committees and an online petition bringing together more than 34,000 signatures.

"I'll be there if there is a fight"

The former Guyanese MP gave the green light to this “citizen” approach: although she recently published novels rather than political essays, she does not exclude any return to the foreground.

"I will be there if we have to fight,"

she said in September 2019 on France Inter.

"If it emerges that it is up to me to take the helm, to take the reins, to tighten my intellectual and emotional muscles and to hold on so that we move forward together"

The former minister behind the law on “marriage for all” has not given up on his struggles on social issues either.

In her interview with

Causette

, she calls on the government to speed up the adoption of medically assisted procreation (MAP) for all women - the executive has promised an adoption of the bioethics law by July.

"Is it fair or is it not fair?"

Me, I think it's fair, "she

Withdrawn from political life for almost five years, Christiane Taubira has several times left her reserve to support Benoît Hamon, during his presidential campaign in 2017, then Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the Socialist Party-Public Square list at the 2019 Europeans. Latest electoral initiative to date: its support for a leaflet by Audrey Pulvar, Socialist candidate in the regional elections of Île-de-France.
