The current status of the children's home in Weichs is cause for annoyance: The construction project is not only much more expensive than planned, the construction is also lagging behind in terms of time.

Weichs - In the non-public part of the latest municipal council meeting, representatives from the architecture firm Kern from Mindelheim informed about the current status of the construction of the new children's home (we reported briefly).

When asked by Dachauer Nachrichten, Mayor Harald Mundl had no good news: the total costs increased to 10.8 million euros compared to the initially estimated 9.9 million euros.

The children's house, in which the after-school care center, the crèche and the St. Martin kindergarten are to be accommodated, will not be ready as planned for the new childcare year and school start in September. For Mundl there are various reasons that led or lead to the increase in costs and the delay: Due to Corona, construction workers, sometimes entire construction crews and currently even an entire company, are absent from the companies currently operating. This means that individual work areas cannot be ended and others that are based on them cannot begin.

In addition, there are delivery bottlenecks in some industries, which are currently having a significant impact on the construction schedule.

In the wood, building raw materials and steel sector, the market has been swept almost empty, and the construction companies are currently not getting enough or only with long waiting times the material they need from their suppliers.

All wood stocks and steel were currently going to America and China, after both countries bought these raw materials at horrific prices and these would be missing or scarce in Germany.

There are currently still some tenders for the last trades at the children's home, such as the carpentry work for cloakrooms, kitchens and furniture, plastering and steel work (stairs and railings), which affect exactly those industries where there are currently particular problems.

Mundl: “It is one thing that this makes building a children's house more expensive.

The fact that it is not finished in time is much worse and it hurts me a lot inside ”.

The community is currently assuming that they will move in in November, with some reservations.
