According to the IDF, fighters from Unit 869 identified the aircraft while crossing the border between the two countries, and shot it down in the area of the Hiram Spatial Brigade. The glider was unarmed, and was apparently a pick-up glider.
An IDF spokesman also announced that about an hour before the glider was shot down, fighters located the remains of another skimmer belonging to Hezbollah, which was shot down by an IDF force a few weeks ago after crossing Lebanese territory towards Israel, in the Baram Territorial Brigade area.
The downing comes after several particularly tense days in the Gaza Envelope area, after dozens of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel by the Hamas terrorist organization over several days. Iron Dome systems were able to intercept some of the missiles - and several other rockets landed in open areas. Three civilians were lightly injured while being injured on their way to a protected area. In response to the shooting, the IDF attacked several Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.
