An 86-year-old woman suffered severe head injuries in an accident with her pedelec in Unterhaching.
The lady was hit by a car.
Unterhaching
- The accident happened on Tuesday shortly before 12 noon on the corner of Biberger Strasse and Von-Stauffenberg-Strasse in Unterhaching.
A 76-year-old was driving north along Biberger Strasse in his car.
At the intersection with Von-Stauffenberg-Straße he wanted to turn right into it.
The driver overlooks the woman when turning
At the same time, an 86-year-old was riding her three-wheeled pedelec on the sidewalk that runs parallel to Biberger Strasse and is open to bicycles.
She also drove north and wanted to cross the crossing to Von-Stauffenberg-Strasse on the pedestrian ford in a straight line.
According to uninvolved witnesses, the traffic lights were green for both, reports the police.
No helmet: 86-year-old suffers severe head injuries
According to the police, when turning right, the car driver overlooked the pedelec and detected it with the front of the vehicle in the area of the pedestrian ford.
The pedelec overturned as a result of the collision, the 86-year-old lady fell onto the road and was seriously injured.
Because she did not wear a bicycle helmet, she suffered severe head injuries, among other things.
In this context, the police point out that wearing a suitable bicycle helmet prevents or at least minimizes head injuries in traffic accidents.
The injured person was taken to a Munich hospital for inpatient treatment in an ambulance.
The car driver was uninjured.
Right turn lane closed for one hour
The vehicles suffered minor property damage totaling around 1,500 euros.
While the accident was being recorded, the right-turn lane from Biberger Strasse to Von-Stauffenberg-Strasse had to be closed for an hour.
The traffic was diverted past the scene of the accident.
There was little traffic disruption.
All resistance did not help: The Garching city council has given the green light for a new building in the city center. Not everyone on the committee likes that.
