All resistance did not help: The Garching city council has given the green light for a new building in the city center.

Not everyone on the committee likes that.

Garching

- How old should the old town center stay?

That was the central question when the city council dealt again with the development on Freisinger Landstrasse.

For the critics, the structure still does not fit into the townscape.

The proponents see acting in the spirit of the times.

Ultimately, the committee made the groundbreaking resolution.

The CSU parliamentary group around Albert Biersack continued to plead for a reduced height with fewer apartments.

The two buildings, each with 21 residential units, are too big, "the city council only sees compliance with the SoBon quota of 30 percent and everything is good," complained Biersack.

He has nothing against densification in principle, but "if you please with a bit of Gfui!" With one floor less, five apartments are eliminated, "that's enough".

"It doesn't matter now"

According to Biersack, the two-storey building plus hipped roof do not fit into the townscape; the existing development plan clearly calls for a careful conversion with the aim of preserving the identity and orienting itself towards the historical structure.

"It doesn't matter now," said Biersack.

The fact that a project-related development plan is being drawn up for just one property is also not a plan for the future for the CSU and UB.

"It is a basic problem that we do not think about the whole thing, but only about a single property," said Florian Baierl (UG).

You are letting go of a good reason to revise the entire development plan.

A procedure that for Christian Nolte (UG) contradicts any urban planning intention.

This is how it should look: 21 residential units are planned in the two buildings.

The Green parliamentary group, on the other hand, has already signaled its yes in advance, a redensification in the interior would prevent further sealing outside. In addition, the property is only 300 meters away from the subway, "so that the residents might even do without the car," hopes Hans-Peter Adolf. The shape of the hipped roof, however, has to be changed, for example into a gable roof with dormers, in order to adapt it to the adjacent buildings.

The majority of Bürger für Garching (BfG) and the SPD was enough to get the development plan off the ground despite all the criticism. Housing would have to be created for Garching's new residents, an "old, holy building plan does not suit the development of our city," says Joachim Krause (SPD). For Götz Braun (SPD), the space around the subway is ideal for densification. "At this point we can go with the zeitgeist," pleaded Mayor Dietmar Gruchmann (SPD). In addition, many different architectural styles can already be seen in the center, from Tuscany houses to concrete buildings in the style of the 1970s. Farms haven't existed for a long time anyway.

The city council no longer shook the reworked mix of ten one-room, 18 two-room, ten three-room and four four-room apartments.

The city councils also accepted the relocation of the underground car park entrance to the east on Freisinger Landstrasse.
