The National Security Adviser met with Jake Sullivan and talked to him about the Iranian threat • The US and Israel agreed: A team will be set up to deal with the threat of skimmers and precision missiles

Last night (Tuesday), Israel's National Security Adviser Meir Ben Shabbat and his American counterpart, Jake Sullivan, met at the Israeli Embassy in Washington.

At the heart of the meeting between them was the Iranian threat and in particular the American intention to sign the nuclear agreement with it.

The meeting was also attended by Rob Mali, the US administration commissioner for nuclear talks with Iran.

Ben Shabbat's conversations consisted of two parts.

At first, a meeting was held in a small forum in which the Israeli ambassador to Washington and the UN, Gilad Ardan, and the deputy head of the National Security Council, Reuven Ezer, took part.

The American side was also joined by Brett McGurk, Middle East Coordinator, and Barbara Leaf, Head of the Middle East Division. In the second and extended part of the meeting, additional representatives from both countries joined.

Information that reached Israel Today shows that the meeting between Sullivan and Ben Shabbat was good.

There have been many agreements, first and foremost on the overarching goal of preventing nuclear weapons from Iran.

In addition to the Iranian nuclear issue, the parties also discussed Iran's regional subversion, its presence in Syria and Hezbollah's activity in Lebanon.

Other issues raised at the meeting: the situation with the Palestinians, the threat posed by the Hague Tribunal (ICC), and the expansion of normalization agreements between Israel and the Arab states.

Regarding the nuclear threat, Arden and Ben Shabbat clarified its opposition to the return to the nuclear deal, contrary to the US position. At the same time, there was a dialogue that the parties define as positive about the steps to be taken to prevent Iran from achieving military nuclear capabilities.

A joint statement from the White House and the Prime Minister's Office said that "the United States and Israel have decided to set up a special team to focus on the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles and precision missiles manufactured by Iran and supplied to its neighbors in the Middle East."

The statement added that "both sides shared their concerns about the recent violent clashes in Jerusalem and US officials welcomed Israel's call for calm. The United States has strongly condemned the recent rocket launches from Gaza into Israel.

"US officials have confirmed the administration's continued support for efforts to promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians and a two-state solution."

It should be noted that this is the first time that Sullivan has met face-to-face with a foreign colleague of his rank (so far there have been meetings at a parallel level in digital only).

Ben Shabbat invited Sullivan to visit Israel.

Today, the senior Israeli adviser is scheduled to return to Israel.

Meanwhile, the second round of nuclear talks at Vienna's Grand Hotel ended without results yesterday, but the Iranian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and representatives of the powers agreed to continue talks.

Attempts to reach an agreement hovered over the harsh remarks made by Zarif in a leaked and detailed publication on Monday, in which the Iranian foreign minister criticized the Russians for their alleged intentions to thwart the original 2015 agreement, with the intention of preventing the regime from approaching the West Axis.

In this regard, Zarif mentioned in an interview that former Quds Force commander Qassem Suleimani was invited to Moscow without the knowledge of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, another expression of shaky relations between the two that sheds light on a broader struggle for control of Iran between the Revolutionary Guards and the political dimension.

Despite this, Mikhail Ulyanov, the Russian representative in talks in Vienna, tweeted at the end that "the discussions proved that the participants are guided by one goal, which is a complete return to the nuclear agreement in its original form. It was decided to expedite the process."
