The Institute of Forensic Sciences of Puerto Rico confirmed this Tuesday that the body found on Sunday in the municipality of Vega Baja, in the north of the island, corresponds to Tariq Quadir Loat, an American tourist whose disappearance had reported on Saturday after visiting the La Perla neighborhood in Old San Juan.
According to the press release from the authorities, agents from the division of disappeared persons of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan had been looking for him since that same Saturday.
The police confirmed Quadir Loat's identity through fingerprint analysis and matching.
Police Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa indicated that that day it was reported that two tourists were attacked by individuals in La Perla.
This "after buying illicit drugs and trying to take photos in the place," said the official.
The commissioner added that both tourists “ignored the warning not to take photographs at the site.
Which produced an altercation, resulting, at least one of them, attacked with various objects.
According to the police, drugs were found in the vehicle transporting one of the complainants.
And one of the tourists received care at the San Juan Medical Center, according to authorities.
Following the incident, the Puerto Rico Police opened an investigation and search for Quadir Loat in La Perla.
The United Forces Rapid Action Police helicopter was also activated to fly over the area.

According to the missing persons requisition report, Quadir Loat was reported missing by his partner, Jamera Barnes.
The document specifies that, while they were in the La Perla area, an incident occurred in which another friend who was with them was also attacked, followed by the disappearance of Quadir Loat.
This Sunday, the police reported a call that alerted the authorities about the discovery in a pasture of a charred body, which turned out to be from Quadir Loat, in the Joyuda sector of Highway 686, in the municipality of Vega Baja.
The police reported that the case is in the investigation process.
Therefore, so far no suspect has been identified.
