According to the Department of Health, two persons were sentenced in the Magistrates’ Court today (28th) for violating the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving in Hong Kong" (Chapter 599C).

Among them, a 52-year-old woman left the quarantine site twice before the expiry of the quarantine order. She was sentenced to 21 days of immediate imprisonment and fined 1,000 yuan for each of the two crimes.

The first case involved a 48-year-old man who was issued a compulsory quarantine order earlier and must undergo compulsory quarantine at home for 14 days.

Before the expiry of the quarantine order, he left his quarantine site on July 26 last year without reasonable excuse and without the permission of an authorized person, and was intercepted by the staff of the Immigration Department at the Shenzhen Bay immigration control point.

He was charged with violating Sections 8(1), 8(4) and 8(5) of the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Arrivals to Hong Kong" (Chapter 599C) and was fined 1,500 for each of the two offences in the Fanling Magistracy yuan.

The second case involved a 52-year-old woman. She was issued a compulsory quarantine order earlier, stating that she must undergo compulsory quarantine at home for 14 days.

Before the expiry of the quarantine order, she left her quarantine site twice on October 7 and 9 last year without reasonable excuse and without the permission of authorized personnel.

She was charged with two violations of Articles 8(1) and 8(5) of the Regulations and was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment for the two offences in Tuen Mun Magistracy and fined $1,000 for each of the two offences .

Sentenced to prison for up to 14 weeks

According to the Department of Health, as of today, a total of 130 people have been convicted by the court for violating quarantine orders, sentenced to immediate imprisonment for up to 14 weeks or fined up to 15,000 yuan.
