Garchinger Straße: For the time being, only the bare essentials will be renovated

Eching is only taking around 20,000 to 30,000 euros this year to make Garchinger Strasse safer.

The aim: to gravel the extended shoulder strips.

Eching

- How much money and effort should be invested this year in the traffic safety of Garchinger Strasse, which is in need of renovation? In the two neighboring communities affected, Eching and Garching, a decision had to be made on how to proceed due to the poor condition of the road between the confluence of the Mastweg and the Garching-Hochbrück bypass. Due to the unclear budget situation due to the pandemic and the high construction costs of around 800,000 euros for the section of road on Eching, it was already agreed in the course of budget discussions at the end of 2020 that only a particularly neuralgic and ailing peripheral area would be repaired this year. Namely the road shoulder on the west side, in order to, as it is called in the statements of the civil engineering office,"To prevent the road surface from slipping further sideways and breaking out and to stabilize the road".

Significant traffic risk

Garching initially decided to wait until the major joint general renovation.

As the responsible department head, Stefan Heckl, explained to the Echinger committee members, due to the narrow lane width, especially when two trucks meet - primarily gravel trucks - there is a shift to the gravel hard shoulder, which was completely extended in some places and with it deep clay hollows represents a not inconsiderable traffic risk.

Particularly critical: on the unpaved asphalt edge, a real ledge has formed between the road and the verge.

As a solid interim solution for the western shoulder of Garchinger Strasse, experts suggested laying so-called reusable grooved panels on frost-proof ground, as has already been done in the Neufahrner Strasse area north of Dietersheim. This ensures that potholes cannot form again within a short period of time and, above all, better stability, higher traffic safety and clear lines are guaranteed. This results in costs of around 145,000 euros.

Georg Bartl (CSU) spoke out against "burning so much money" with a provisional solution and met with approval.

He advocated that this year only the most necessary repair work should be carried out by graveling the edge strips.

For this, the complete renovation - together with Garching - should then be tackled in the coming year, and not only in 2023/24, as the building management had considered with the interim solution with grooved panels.

The committee unanimously followed Bartl's suggestion that this year only around 20,000 to 30,000 euros should be earmarked for the necessary minimum amount of partitioning.

Tempo 30 should remain

In order to increase road safety as an accompanying measure, the top speed, which has already been reduced from 60 to 30 km / h due to the poor road condition, should continue to apply.

In addition, reflective boundary posts will be installed on the western edge of the road, as they are already present on the east side, which is much less extended.
