New York-Sana

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that Syria continues to improve the humanitarian situation of its citizens, support humanitarian access efforts and deliver aid to all those who deserve it, indicating that what it is doing corresponds to blind intransigence of some countries that adhere to the mechanism of cross-border access and its exploitation and use of the humanitarian issue in the service of their hidden political agendas. And its anti-Syrian goals.

Sabbagh pointed out during a session of the Security Council today via video that Syria has continued constructive cooperation with United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners to improve the humanitarian situation and deliver humanitarian aid to those who deserve it. Two days ago, letters were sent to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council containing its detailed observations on the content of the 72 report of the Secretary-General on Humanitarian Affairs and its reaffirmation of its position rejecting the mechanism of cross-border aid delivery due to its violation of Syria's sovereignty and the grave defects contained in this mechanism.

Sabbagh indicated that one of the main challenges facing humanitarian access is the obstructing role of the Turkish occupation forces and the terrorist organizations affiliated with it, as they prevented the arrival of a joint convoy to the city of Atarib, on which Syria had been granted approval by the United Nations since last April, and more than that was preventing the Syrian Arab Red Crescent from working in those The region and replacing it with the Turkish Red Crescent, which does not have any legal mandate to operate on the Syrian lands, in addition to the Turkish regime continuing to use drinking water as a weapon against civilians in Hasakah, for the 23rd time it has cut off drinking water coming from the Alouk station to the city and its vicinity for a period of sixteen days. Making more than a million Syrian citizens suffer from thirst and deprivation of water, while the Security Council remains silent about these practices and does not assume its responsibilities to find a sustainable solution to this problem.

Sabbagh clarified that the Western countries have burdened the Security Council for more than ten years by holding one meeting after another on Syria, not with the aim of addressing the important issues related to combating terrorism on its territory, ending the illegal foreign military presence there, lifting the unilateral coercive measures imposed on its people, or facilitating the process of restoring Reconstruction and building what has been destroyed by terrorism, but rather to launch hostile campaigns, launch unfounded accusations and provide provocative statements filled with nos and dictations.

Sabbagh pointed out that in the context of those countries continuing to escalate their hostile campaigns against Syria, some European capitals recently witnessed plays to tamper with the pillars of international law, as we witnessed a show that was in The Hague by exploiting the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention to pass a hostile and dangerous decision against Syria and before that we witnessed another show. Represented by holding the fifth edition of the so-called "Brussels Conference" in light of the unacceptable absence of the Syrian government concerned with representing the Syrian people and authorized to work with the United Nations and other international partners to meet their humanitarian and development needs.

Sabbagh expressed Syria's regret for the United Nations’s participation in chairing an event devoted to politicizing humanitarian work, linking it to conditions that contradict its principles altogether and ignoring the real reasons behind the increase in human suffering represented by the coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people and the accompanying plunder of Syrian wealth by the American occupation forces, foremost of which are oil and crops. And depriving the Syrian people of benefiting from it, in flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions.

Sabbagh reiterated Syria's commitment to a political process with Syrian ownership and leadership facilitated by the United Nations represented by its special envoy Geir Pedersen in light of full respect for Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, stressing that the success of the work of the constitution discussion committee requires respecting its rules of procedures that have been agreed upon and rejecting any foreign interference in it. Or attempts to impose dictations about her work summaries or artificial timelines.

Sabbagh clarified that millions of Syrians inside and outside the country will go to the polls next month to cast their votes in the presidential elections, for which the date for submitting applications for candidacy expired today, and the list of applicants included 51 people, including seven women competing to obtain the required support from members of Parliament, stressing that these elections are due. Sovereign constitutional and consistent with the state's mission to ensure that its institutions fulfill their constitutional duties and move forward towards completing other duties, including liberating our land from the remnants of terrorist organizations, ending the illegal foreign military presence, restoring security and stability, and repairing and rehabilitating what terrorism has destroyed in the infrastructure.

Sabbagh said: Some have consistently launched campaigns to disrupt this electoral process by mixing this constitutional entitlement with some provisions of Security Council Resolution 2254 and what is stated in the statements of some countries today is clear evidence of the misinformation that they are practicing in flagrant violation of the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. To the member states, stressing the obligation of those states to respect the United Nations Charter and stop violating the right of Syrians to choose their president freely, responsibly and democratically, and stop issuing provocative statements and hostile statements that do not serve the goal of establishing security and stability in Syria.
